What Have You Accomplished in the Last Two Weeks - Resolutions Part 2

Did you get a calendar? If you did, how many items did you put in on a daily basis and how many items did you cross off?

You should have had at least two items and crossed them off. If you were more ambitious and entered more items, good for you!

Did you have to reschedule any items? It is all right to do so. Rescheduling allows you to give yourself another day instead of feeling frustrated because you didn't complete it. I do have to mention that rescheduling does not mean procrastinating. That is a bad habit that we will discuss at another time.

This exercise of putting our To Do list in a calendar helps us create a habit; therefore, keeping us focused on the task at hand. If you are having trouble getting started, my suggestion is to start with the one thing that you have been putting off the most.

If you don't know where to start, the best place to start is with the mail. When the mail comes in, go straight to the kitchen and toss or recycle any junk mail. Open your mail and take out the bill and the envelope or the letter; toss the advertising and shred any convenience checks (you probably shouldn't be using them anyways). Now you can go to your calendar and enter your To Dos and put the rest of the papers in the filing pile.

Do the same to clean-up your desk, kitchen counter or any place you put your paperwork. Create a pile for action, filing, and tossing. Once you have created the three piles, you can start by tossing one pile. Great! Now you are down to two piles. That was easy! Next, go on to your action pile. Why? Because after you have taken care of it, it goes in the filing or a new tossing pile. In your action pile, choose the items that you need to take care of first and do it. Once you are done, put it in the filing pile, or toss or shred it if you don't need it. If some items have an upcoming deadline, go ahead and jot it down in your calendar. Now you have created a few more To Dos for another day.

After you get into the habit of keeping a calendar, we'll discuss on how keeping a calendar will get you closer to your GOAL!
